ABOUT

The House with 33 Pillars (Das Haus mit 33 Säulen)

"The person moves and not the body alone." (From the essay by L. Langgaard, in: Künstlerische Körperschulung, 1923)

In her essay of the same name Louise Langgaard presents the liberating power of "movement enfolding" ("Bewegungsentfaltung"), a term she prefers to the term "gymnastics". For the early resident artists of Loheland movement breathes soul into the body. 80 years later Margarethe Voegele collects Loheland drawings and illustrates the meaming of dynamics and movement in "From Movement to Form" ("Von der Bewegung zur Form"). • To perceive and depict the movement of bodies in this way is the basis of the multi-disciplinary work THE HOUSE WITH THIRTYTHREE PILLARS ("Das Haus mit dreiunddreissig Säulen") by Julia Romas. Amongst balancing acts, experimental sounds, and verte-brate beings she asks whether the revolutionary ideas and methods of the Loheland women are still relevant. What discourses have remained and connect us to them? What does (self-)discipline mean in regard to community? In which ways do generations stand to one another? Can freedom exist where power rules?
